How the Real AZ-104 Exam Works

40-60 Questions, 120 Minutes

Unlike CompTIA exams, Microsoft allows you to revisit and change answers within each section. The exam includes case studies with exhibits — a shared scenario followed by 4-6 questions. Our mock exams replicate this format with 50 blueprint-weighted questions.

RBAC Is the Most Tested Topic

Role-Based Access Control questions appear in every AZ-104 exam. Know the scope hierarchy: Management Group → Subscription → Resource Group → Resource. Understand built-in roles (Owner, Contributor, Reader, User Access Administrator) and when to create custom roles.

Storage Accounts Appear Everywhere

You must know redundancy options (LRS, ZRS, GRS, RA-GRS), access tiers (Hot, Cool, Cold, Archive), and how to configure secure access via SAS tokens, service endpoints, and private endpoints. Questions often combine storage with networking topics.

Scoring: 700/1000 to Pass

Microsoft uses a scaled scoring system. Your raw percentage correct is converted to a 100-1000 scale. 700 is the passing threshold, but the exact raw-to-scaled conversion varies per exam form. Our mocks use the same 700/1000 scale to simulate real performance.

How to Prepare for AZ-104 in 30 Days

Week 1: watch an AZ-104 fundamentals video series and read the domain-wise overviews to map your weak areas. Weeks 2-3: drill each domain in timed 25-question blocks, then start full 50-question mocks. Week 4: run two to three full timed exams and review every wrong answer's explanation. Candidates who pass AZ-104 typically complete at least three full mock exams before test day. Starting from zero Azure knowledge? Take the free AZ-900 practice tests first. Comparing AWS instead? Our AWS Cloud Practitioner practice tests cover the equivalent foundations, and the AZ-900 vs AZ-104 comparison guide helps choose a starting point.
